I have to admit my admiration for this brutal piece of horror fiction. The writing is excellent in many respects - Cutter uses unflinching description in the way he illustrates the terrifying weekend five scouting boys have on a remote Canadian island. There are both internal and external conflicts strewn through the story - man versus man in the form of scout on scout antipathy. And man versus a particularly deadly brand of nature, which I will allow the story to unfold to you. In all, a real gore fest that begs the question - will anyone get off this island alive?
